I’ve been thinking about hospitality operations since writing my honors thesis at the UConn School of Business on the strategic differences between hostels and hotels. That interest turned into hands-on work: front desk experience in San Francisco, running a small hostel in Australia as the live-in manager, and managing guest programming for a 400-bed hostel in Sydney.
Those roles taught me the parts of hospitality that rarely make it into product demos: messy workflows, staffing realities, reputation management, and the operational tradeoffs behind every “simple” system change. I’ve helped properties improve guest experience and online performance, and I’ve supported operators through high-pressure moments when access, accounts, or processes break down.
Today, I work at the intersection of hospitality tech and change management. I’ve partnered with independent hotels, hostels, and multi-property groups on system evaluation, migration planning, and adoption, including cross-functional stakeholder coordination and on-site staff training. I’ve spent most of my career in hospitality technology (and a stint in mid-market SaaS that sharpened my consultative approach for complex buying teams). Based in San Diego, I stay involved in the local community and the broader hospitality ecosystem.

Partnered with large hostel networks during platform evaluation, helping map requirements, clarify tradeoffs, and navigate cross-department considerations over a multi-month decision cycle.
Supported a transition from legacy on-prem systems to a modern cloud platform, including in-person training to accelerate adoption for front desk and operational teams.
“Byron took a thoughtful, consultative look at our distribution and direct-booking strategy and quickly identified practical ways to increase occupancy. He understands hostel-specific channel dynamics and how to balance visibility with operational reality. His recommendations were actionable, grounded, and aligned with how we actually run our property.”
“Byron was instrumental during our PMS transition. He navigated challenges with transparency, escalated issues appropriately, and consistently advocated for our team’s needs. He doesn’t oversell — he focuses on what’s realistic and sustainable. Working with him felt like having a partner invested in long-term success.”
